Are you hearing and listening?

This sounds like a strange title, doesn’t it?  Isn’t hearing and listening the same thing?  So why ask if you are doing both?  Let us allow the Spirit to explain.

When Jesus was upon earth (and still is), He told many parables to His followers, disciples and apostles.  One of those parables was the parable of the sower.  Many of you probably remember this parable but for those who don’t remember or never heard it before here it is:

Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge.  He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said:  “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.  As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.  Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.  But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.  Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain.  Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”

Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

When Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear,” doesn’t that mean everyone with ears did and should have heard His message?  But did all those who were there really hear, and we will leave those who may have been deaf for now?  He will share more about being deaf after and why there is no difference for those who can hear and those who are deaf.  But that’s for later.

So all those who were there must have heard the message?  If so, then they were listening too, weren’t they?  No, not all were (are) listening.

Here is the second part of that story (reality) from the book:

When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables.  He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables so that,

‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’”

Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable?  The farmer sows the word.  Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.   Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy.  But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.  Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.  Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop - some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”

What did Jesus mean? “They may see but cannot perceive, they may hear but cannot understand…”  Why would He ‘conceal’ from some while ‘reveal’ to others?  Isn’t that unfair?  Isn’t He supposed to be fair and just?

All who have ears - let them hear!  But do you?  Even the deaf do not have an excuse not to hear, never mind those who can hear.  So why do you not hear?  Why do you not listen?

Did your mom or dad ever tell you, “Now, listen to me!”? Now she or he didn’t say, “Now, hear (to) me!”  They said, “Listen to me!”  That means, “Do as I tell you to do.”  First you hear the command and then you listen (follow through) on it.  You receive instruction and in obedience you do as you’re told.  So you are hearing and then listening.  So they are two different things.

Did you ever have a conversation with someone and you can hear that they are talking but you are not really listening to what they are saying because you are in your head somewhere else - either because of boredom, worry or nervousness?  Well then you are hearing but not listening.  Or has it ever happened that you were hearing and understanding what the person is saying but you know that you will not listen to what they say to do?  For example, your doctor tells you to quit smoking and you shake your head yes, but inside you are saying no.  Well, this too is not listening but not because you didn’t understand, you just want to sort of ‘disobey’ and do your own thing while deceiving the person before you.

So are you hearing?  Therefore if you hear the message, do you understand?  If not, I shall help you to understand.  Then when you do understand (if not, already), then are you listening?  Are you listening to My Spirit by following the instructions put before you to establish My Kingdom upon earth?  Obedience will teach you faith. Even if you do not understand, all answers shall be given to you in the love you give unto others.

Do not obey out of fear, for you must do it willingly and humbly out of love for others.  Fear not.  Though you have fear of God, it must be fear of life without Me, for then that is no life.

Do not obey only to receive your reward, for then you are not doing for others but for yourself.  You must give your own life for that of others.  For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.

Do you hear?  Do you understand?  Do you listen?

But what if you never heard the Word?

What if I never heard that it wasn’t good to smoke and so I smoked thinking that this was okay?  Would I have an excuse to continue since I never knew it wasn’t good for me?  In this situation, I never heard.  So I could never understand, nor listen to the word and obey it.

Where are all My workers within the field?  I have called many to go out into the field for others to know My Name, yet so few have listened to My Word.  They have heard it, understood yet quickly put it aside as no value, thinking that it will be there later for them to pick it up again.  No one knows the hour I shall come to them, that I shall call them before Me and ask them, ‘Have you heard? Then did you understand? Then why haven’t you listened to My Word?’  Worse is it for those who hear, understand but do not listen for they have no excuses.  Those who never heard (perhaps because of you) are better off than those who hear, understand but do not listen.

How can My many children come to know of Me when all those who claim to know Me, share Me not with the world?  I am to you like forget-me-nots, where you at once remember Me in moments of sadness but so quickly do you put Me aside when things get better, for other things take precedence within your heart.  Please, forget Me not.  I wish for you to be with Me always, for I am with you always.

Hear My message.  Even if you do not understand then go and love in My Name and all answers shall be given to you through those I put before you.  Listen (heed) to My Word.

You cannot hear?  Are you deaf?  If not, then why when you hear My Word, you do not understand?  Even when I explain My parables you still do not listen to them.

But what about you who cannot hear?  Even to you…I speak to you and you shall hear My Voice.

A while back Roger was asked to speak in a community and there was a man who was partially deaf.  Roger was speaking and he could see the man sitting in the front row with his hand to his ear and Roger could tell this man still couldn’t hear because he kept saying “huh?” with a confused look on his face.  The Spirit told Roger to direct the man to come up and sit down on a chair.  So Roger pointed to the man and signed to him to come and have a seat.  So the man did.  Then the Spirit told Roger to ask one of the young boys there to come and put his fingers in the man’s ears.  So the little one came up and stuck his fingers in the man’s ears.  Then Roger said to the man quietly and with his hand over his mouth, “Can you hear me sir?”  The man replied, “Yes, but don’t speak so loud.”  Roger then told the young boy to take his fingers out of the man’s ears and Roger said in a loud voice and with his mouth in view, “Can you hear me now sir?”  The man said, “Huh? What did you say?  Speak up!”  Roger signaled again to the boy to put his fingers back in the man’s ears and again Roger said with his hand over his mouth again, “Can you hear me now?”  The man said, “Yes! But how is it that I can hear you?”  The Spirit made a little joke and said to the young boy, “I guess you’ll have to walk around with your fingers in his ears.”  But how was this possible?  The man couldn’t have read the lips because Roger’s hand was covering his mouth and he was also speaking very quietly yet this man heard him speak.  How?

Another time a couple called the Mission and asked to come in to see Roger.  The Spirit told Roger to tell them to come and they arranged a time to come in.  When they came the husband explained to Roger that his wife was deaf and every time Roger said something the husband would yell to his wife what was said.  So the Spirit said to talk to the wife but in a quiet voice and with his hand over his mouth. So Roger said to her, “Why are you so afraid?”  She responded, “I’m not afraid.”  When her husband saw that she could hear he said in a loud voice, “Ah! You can hear?”  She said, “What? I didn’t hear you.”  So Roger said to her again in a small voice with his hand over his mouth, “Why are you so afraid?”  She said, “I don’t know why.  Is it fear that’s stopping me from hearing?”  So the Spirit explained to both of them that she got so used to ‘closing’ her ears to loud voices because her father used to yell loud and scare her.  So every time someone, especially men, would speak in a loud voice she would instantly become scared and ‘close’ her ears to hearing what they were saying.

It was the same for the man who was deaf.  Both had fear.  But when the Spirit removed the fear, the message was received.

That is how sensitive we are, so much that even our body responds to the negative feelings we face with one another.  Fear is the stumbling block from hearing the Word, understanding the Word and listening to (obeying) the Word.  Fear is the opposite of faith.  And obedience will teach you faith.

Do not fear what can destroy the body but fear that which can destroy the spirit for then all hearing, understanding and listening becomes impossible to your eyes.  Fear will stop you from hearing.  Fear will stop you from understanding.  Fear will stop you from heeding to the Word.  Do not fear what earthly goods you might ‘lose’ here upon earth, for in the end you take nothing with you.  It is your soul that comes to Me.

It matters not where you are in your life today or what mistakes you have made, for I know and see all.  I take you as you are.  Not to remain as you are, but to make you better for I have created you to My Image and Resemblance.  Do you look anything like Me?  If not, allow Me to mold you.  Allow Me to inform you, form you from within.  Allow Me to wipe away the dirt you and others have put on yourself for Me to reveal to your eyes the beauty within.  I shall know you are good and polished when I can see My Face reflecting back at Me.  But just as silverware requires regular cleaning and brightening so do you who are My gold upon earth.  As such, you too need regular cleaning and brightening for so easily does the dirt of the earth find itself upon you.

A mother wipes away dirt upon the face of her little one and the little one tries to squirm away from this cleaning.  So do I find you within My Arms when I clean you with My Sacred Blood (the Truth).  But soon as you see the reflection of I in you more and more, you shall not fight too much when the Cleansing Hand approaches.

Do not fear that which is good for you.  As a mother wiping from her child’s face dirt (received in times of play) or tears (produced in times of sadness), she wishes her child to feel and look as good as she knows him to be within.  How much more comfort would you find in I, your Father Who knows all and Who sees all, for I created her (your mother) with you in mind?

Love is so rare within the world that when it finds you, you sometimes fear it, for you are so unaccustomed to it.  Yet you find yourself drawn to this love, perhaps curious at first but then truly interested in knowing more for it begins to change you from the inside out.  But do not confuse this love for human love, for flesh is but flesh. But the Spirit is intangible, divine and heavenly.

How I rejoice in finding you before Me today.  How it pleases Me to bring joy to your heart.  Let your heart be troubled no more for I am with you already; around you and within you.

I love you, My children.  I love you, My little one.  Hear Me loving you.  Understand how much I love you to come unto you today.  Now listen, and go and love in My Name.

Hear, understand and listen.

Listen for My Spirit.

From the Call of Love unto you today,

The Whisper of Love within your heart
